Last week, part of the Native Sun team was in attendance at the 2024 DOE Office of Indian Energy Program Review! Representatives of Tribes from all over the country gathered together at this 4-day event in Denver, CO to showcase their progress, challenges, and lessons learned from their DOE-funded renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Held annually, the program review presents a valuable opportunity for Tribes to make connections, learn from each other, and share each others’ knowledge and experiences developing energy projects.

On Thursday, former Office of Indian Energy interns, including Native Sun team member Sarah LaVallie, also presented on their research projects and experiences with the internship program. Since its creation in 2002, 47 college student interns representing 24 different tribal affiliations have participated in the program. The internship provides students with real-world exposure to tribal energy projects, as well as mentorship, and research opportunities.
