Dear friends,

Clean Energy is a path to Justice 40. Carbon-free energy is a possibility, and it has been a possibility for a long time. Now that we are making the transition to a healthier world. Nonprofits like ours, whose mission is to empower communities, are coming together to help #CleanHeatMinnesota become a success.

Clean Heat Minnesota is a statewide, multiracial coalition representing Minnesotans who want clean, affordable energy for power, heating, and cooking because using gas inside our homes is too concerning.

Our state has substantially reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, but our building sector has received less attention, particularly regarding the emissions from outdated natural gas technology. This is one of the critical reasons that Native Sun will be working hard in this coalition.

Clean Heat Minnesota came into existence when Communities Organizing Latino Power and Action (COPAL) and the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota (CUB) teamed up with an idea to push natural gas out of our homes and businesses. The Energy Foundation agrees and is providing the funding for the effort.

The shared goals of the coalition center ambition and equity as we strive to secure Minnesota’s cleaner, more affordable, and equitable energy future. Four core goals include:

  • Get Minnesota’s gas system to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with the state’s climate goals.
  • Use clean, Midwest-made energy that leverages Minnesota’s innovation to curb pollution and tackle climate change.
  • Produce safe energy that eliminates indoor air pollution.
  • Make available reliable energy with consistent prices we can all afford.

Look for more updates about this coalition’s important work, and in the meantime, take a look at the CleanHeatMn.org website for more information on how we’re addressing carbon emissions from gas stoves and furnaces.
